Los Comuns

LOS COMUNS

Small production is an understatement when describing the wines of childhood friends Jordi Escoda and Agusti Perello of Los Comuns. Tucked away in Garcia Tarragona, they quietly produce deeply rich indigo toned wines of intense and sultry fruit, heaps of character and a deep connection to terroir. With no added sulfites, the wines macerate, ferment and age in a mix of amphora tanks and older casks. Jordi and Agusti seem to relish their outsider status in the Priorat D.O. and happily deny the appellation status, instead opting for the humble Vino de la Mesa.

The grapes come from old family plots located around Priorat and bordering Montsant. The well drained black slate and quartz soils, known as Llicorella, add a minerality and intensity to the tannic framework and give the wines a lovely balance. Very old Carinyena and Garnacha are the stars here, and the wines team with dark sumptuous cassis and blackberry fruit balanced with a surprising freshness. We think these two hardworking vignerons are just hitting their stride. Their passion and commitment to producing natural and honest wine is inspiring.
